How To Level Up Your Business in 3 Easy Steps

Bossladies, today I want to chat about a hard lesson that I had to learn when I was running my skincare business, and it’s all about one tiny thing that new entrepreneurs hate doing: embracing change and learning how to level up your business.

Listen up… if you want to be successful, you have to realize that you’re not going to hit a home run on the first try.

That’s why you always see people rebranding and up leveling.  Even big companies do this! I recently saw a commercial the other day for Cici’s pizza and noticed that they had changed their logo to a cleaner looking emblem.  I found it kind of funny because I’ve eaten there before, but I can’t say that I was completely able to enjoy myself because their branding just threw me off.  The logo looked cheap, and the locations (to me) are subpar.  But it completely fits their target audience’s image.  I, actually, AM  their target market (mom with kids looking for an affordable meal on a busy day) but I’m also really drawn to branding.  Sloppy branding just doesn’t do it for me, boo boo, so I just couldn’t get down with Cici’s.  They, however, were able to get the point: you simply can’t stay the same forever if you really want to have and scale a successful business.

Personally, I ran into more than a few issues with my skincare brand that ultimately led me to make the decision to close and relaunch (at a date that I’m not sure of as of right now).  The three cornerstones I’m about to mention helped me realize how I can really up level my business, and guess what?  They’re applicable to ALL business types, it doesn’t matter the niche.  Just put your pretty little brain to work, and remember these three E’s when you’re planning to up level your business!

Before you dive deep into trying to level up your business, you need to evaluate the current state of your business.  Is it failing?  Are you spending too much money?  Is your marketing plan wack?  If the answer is yes, IT’S OK.  It’s not a big deal!  The biggest thing about running a successful business is realizing when you need to make changes.  So, one of my favorite shows is The Profit with Marcus Lemonis.  Sometimes I get so mad watching it because these failing business owners have THE business gurus of all business gurus coming in to help them turn their processes around, and then they have the nerve to have an attitude!  Excuse me??? Look, you need to be open to change.  You know the saying “get with it or get lost”?  Yeah… you need to get with it or get lost.  Get with turning your business around and really being about your money and success!  The first step is acknowledging the problem, right?

Then, you need to eliminate anything that is damaging your business.  So, if you’ve got a product that just isn’t selling, maybe your market just isn’t into it.  Cut your losses and get rid of it!  I once spent $20 a month for a toll-free phone number, and I only received one phone call during a six month period.  Even though it was only a $120 “investment”, it still wasn’t worth it!  Don’t spend money when you don’t have to, even if it seems like a convenient investment.  What I should have done first is really evaluate how many phone calls I realistically would be getting, being that I was opening up a fresh online shop.  As a small business, any money is good money and you don’t want to waste it on frivolous decisions.


Finally, you need to enhance the value of your products.  How can you give your customers more value?  How can you give your customers products that will produce more results? This step takes some time, because really, there is no simple answer.  You have to really dive into your niche, check out what other competitors are doing, research what people are looking for, and then you may be able to find some answers.  Happy customers, real results, and amazing value will be the trio that unlocks success for your business.

    I think one thing every entrepreneur should evaluate is how much time they spend on their business, how they can eliminate spending so much time in their business and how they can enhance their personal life while enhancing their business.

    In brief, I am 100% a believer in working smarter. Automate those non-personal social media updates (like sharing your products, blogs etc) and auto-mating posts.

    When I first started my business, I thought that the only way I could excel was to work 23 out of 24 hours in a day. Now I’ve gotten my workload down to an 8am-7pm schedule that I am working now on getting down to 8am-5pm. It’s just not healthy and realistic to work all those hours and you get burned out very quickly. I think that’s the biggest lesson I learned as an entrepreneur and probably one of the biggest mistakes new entrepreneurs make. Grinding hard doesnt necessarily mean grind till you pass out and die.

      Natasha, I 100% agree! I did the same exact thing when I started my business, but I slowly learned that it’s not how much time you spend on your biz, it’s all about how effective you can be. I think that mentality comes from all of these entrepreneur quotes and moguls saying stuff like that… “I don’t sleep, I grind”… it’s crazy.
